How to cross U.S Border with 14'-17' U-haul Truck?

Hi

We recently got our green cards and are planning to move from Ontario to Massachusetts with a 14' or 17' U-Haul truck. I have read some forums and understand that I have to bring a detailed description of the articles in my truck. Do I have to put values (dollar) on each of the items on the list? Do I have to call in 2 days before I get to the border?

Also, when I reach the U.S border, do I go through the autos' lane or the trucks' lane? And do I have to take a specific truck route (issues with clearance or dimensions) or just the normal route that I take with my car. What are some other formalities that I must consider before making the move.

We also have some house plants, can we take them across the border as well. If yes, are there any forms that need to be filled out?

I crossed the border with a U-Haul (27 footer despite asking for a 14-17!) at Port Huron in August 2009 in order to start working in Michigan. While things may have changed since then, I did not bring an itemized list of the trucks contents or call ahead; neither was a problem. I used the car lanes to cross; my impression is the truck lanes are for commercial traffic only. The inspection agent briefly looked in the back of the truck before sending me in to get my TN processed - he didn't seem to think crossing with a U-Haul was that out of the ordinary. Back in 2004 when I crossed with my greencard (relationship based)and Uhaul truck (through Maine) I didnt call ahead and went through the normal line up---because I was the only 1 crossing,lol I had a list, not super detailed, for electronics I put down an approx $$$. The customs guy barely even looked at it and never looked inside my truck! I have been a member of visajourney.com (relationship visa forum)since 2004 and for the most part, they tend to be fairly relaxed. Every now and then they will go through the contents a bit. I just made a Table on MS wordand kept it very simple
