How to find work in US

Post Wed Jan 09, 2008 3:22 pm

Hi,

I recently relocated in Windsor to get closer to my boyfriend. But I want to work in US. I know I would need a visa. My boyfriend is not a US citizen, so I would need a TN visa.

But I to find that employer ready to sponsor me? Anybody has suggestions? Which recruiters would help me?

I am looking for work in Detroit. I can also consider studying (such as Accounting, Education). But this is a big investment. I already have a bachelor in Management Information Systems and I am bilingual French-English (considering learning Spanish).

Thank you for your advices

Good luck to you! Considering Michigan has the highest unemployment rate in the country, I will hazard a guess that it'll be rather difficult to find a job for someone who needs to be sponsored.

Just have a look at the usual internet jobs sites, and the Detroit newspaper classifieds. That's a start.

If you live in Windsor and you don't mind getting up early, you could actually commute to Detroit, I was chatting with a guy on another forum who does that. The letter for the TN-1 isn't that big of a deal, you just need to get a job. I'm sure you get all the Detroit stations, we get them here too on cable (never been sure why), job market in Detroit does look tough.

Thank you for your replies.

And what about that:
My boyfriend's solution was that I get into a school in Detroit so once I'm a student it could be easier to find work, an employer ready to sponsor me.

That's a big investment in money and time, I'm just scared to do all that and still not be able to find work.

Steven, do you think you could ask the guy from Windsor or Detroit to communicate with me?

Thank you
