How to re-new canadian passport while in US?

Can someone please point me towards instructions or past experiences of how to renew my canadian passport while in the US? I have family back home, can they do it for me etc?

You can do it through the nearest Canadian consulate or consulate-general (or the Embassy if you are in or near Washington DC). There are Canadian offices in most of the major cities, eg Boston, New York, Detroit, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, etc. There are others that don't pop to mind but you can find the nearest one and its address on the internet. Look for Department of Foreign Affairs & International Trade, Canada.
