Human resources jobs in Australia???

Post Thu Feb 26, 2009 11:22 am

I am seriously considering moving to Australia in the near future and could use some input from any HR professionals. I have just over one year experience as a Human Resources Associate/Recruiter. When I completed a preliminary visa assessment, it turns out that I would qualify for a skilled worker visa. I am wondering if HR or Recruiting jobs are readily available for someone with not too much experience. I did graduate with a bachelor of commerce with a major in human resources management if that helps at all.

I realize that location is important when job hunting so I am thinking Sydney, Melbourne, brisbane or in the whitsunday islands (haha to that one - I realise it's unrealistic). I've been to Australia before (Sydney to Cairns and Alice Springs) and am very ready to seriously consider a move but I am dreading doing all this work and spending thousands of dollars only to land a fruit picking job! Any input would be appreciated and I apologize if this topic has already been posted.

As I've mentioned in another post, the economy isn't so great in both countries so the job prospects are bleaker than 1yr ago. Stick to big cities and hopefully by the time your skilled visa is approved the economy will be on the upswing.
