Husband on TN visa -- can wife work?

Post Tue Jun 03, 2008 2:52 pm

Hi everyone!
Please help us!
My husband may be getting a job in the US on TN visa. I've read that spouses are unable to work but may study. Here's the question: I'm a registered nurse with 10 yrs experience -- if I am able to gain my own temporary visa then can I work as well? Seems like a basic question but we need to know the answer -- it may determine whether or not we relocate our family. Thanks!

Well if you can get a TN-1 or something like an H-1C then of course you can both work, but you can't on the ordinary TD derivative you would get otherwise.

There is a massive demand for nurses in the US at the moment and the H-1C programme is apparently going to be overhauled to hugely increase the quota, but it hasn't happened yet, as far as I'm aware.
Steve.

You should be able to get your own TN and have no problem working.
