I-129 Approved, What's next?

Post Tue Feb 15, 2011 6:51 pm

My employer has received notification that the I-129 petition has been approved.

It is a P-1 application, my question is what happens next?

I have read that I can apply for the P-1 visa at the Port of Entry, but that was an older document so I don't know if that is true still or not.

Can anyone assist....can I apply at Port of Entry or do I need to schedule an interview at nearest Consulate?

Thanks!

Cdns don't go to Consulates for almost any visa, including P-1.

Simply present the approval notice (I-797) from your employer at the border if you drive or airport when you fly.
You will be issued an I-94 in P1 status. That is your work authroization.

Thank you for the information....following up question on the I-94 record.

I will be going to the US several times a year to complete my work and will be returning to Canada in between, will I need a new I-94 each time that I enter and exit or will I be able to use just 1 for the duration of my visa?

You should keep your I-94 until it expires or is no longer valid, or you no longer need it, at which time you hand it to the Cdn officer has you re-enter canada.
