I-485/I-765

If I have sponsorship for permanent residence status, how long does this process take?Also, if you get an Employment Authorization Document are you able to work while residence status is in progress?How long does I-765 take? Thanks for all help.This job would commence in January,,,how can I make it happen? I'm a chef.

Definitely over a year. You cannot work on the pending I-765 until its approved, which takes about 4 months. If you're in another nonimmigrant status of course you could use that for employment. (e.g. H-1B)
