I am a Canadian and want to go in UK

Post Sun Aug 02, 2009 8:29 pm

Hi there!
I am currently thinking to go in England in order to work. My goal in the future is to work for a magazine. I am 34. What should I do, what kind of visas do I need or what are the options for me to be legit for work there?
Thanks for your help!
Take care,
Karine

...All I can do is wish you luck.

Do you have a set of grandparents that were born in the UK? You may be able to get the ancestry visa.

Were one or both of your parents born in the UK? You could potentially have the right of abode.

You're over the age limit for the Youth Mobility Scheme Visa...

If you have a Master's Degree and salary expectations of over £20,000, you can go over on a Tier 1 Visa.

If you only have bachelor's...good luck getting sponsored for a Tier 2 Visa, especially in the magazine industry. The UK is in the protectionist phase right now. When you think about it, magazine writers/contributors/layout workers/etc are a dime a dozen, and they want to hire local, because their economy still sucks over there.

Besides, even if you have the qualifications that they're looking fore, this is what they have to do: they look locally; if they can't find anyone there, they have to go to the European Economic Agreement (EEA) next; if there is no one qualified there, then they can consider you.

Sorry to be such a downer. I really am. It's just that the UK residents have priority of getting the jobs over the internationals that come in looking for jobs.
