Congratulations!

How bad was the biometrics thing?

I think we have everything covered for our applications, but just not sure about doing the online app- does it take long to do? What was the turnaround time from biometrics to a response?

Hi

How long did it take you roughly?

On what basis did you apply for it? Mother was born there, father was born there?

jbloemink,

Ancestry visas are for UK born grandparents- if you have a parent born there, you are entitled to and apply for "Right of Abode", which from what I read is much easier to apply for (someone can correct me here if I'm wrong).

The biometrics was painless. It only took 15 minutes, tops.

As for the turnaround. let's see, I sent it all out on the tuesday, it got to ottawa on the thursday, and I had my e-mail from them on friday. Extraordinarily quick!

And yes, I applied through my Scottish Grandmother. People with parents who were born in the UK can apply for Right of Abode.

address

How important do you think a firm address is when applying for UK Ancestry?

I have everything else in order but not really any family/friends in London that I can stay with when I first arrive so was going to stay in a hostel or some other short-term arrangement.

Great to hear it is such a quick process. I am applying in July for an October departure.

Thanks for your help.

Hi CM- No, I'm moving to England :) My boyfriend is from Wales, but he goes to school in Gloucestershire.

Hi Amaryllis -- I think an address of some sort would be a good idea. However, as long as you have enough money to support yourself, I don't see it being a problem. Hope you're successful. :)

Amaryllis, you're in the same timeframe we are- maybe we'll see you at the aiport *LOL*

Just keep in mind you have 90 days to enter (from what I've read on the forums)- we're applying right at the end of July, so by the time we have our biometrics done and we're *hopefully* approved, it will be around the first week of August. Because of DEFRA, our dog can't travel until at least 26 September but my wife or I would like to get over there 1 or 2 weeks prior to "set up shop" if we can- it's been tough finding a flat/house that will accept a pet.

Just like Jen said, I believe if you have reasonable finances in order, you'll be fine.
