Immigration Lawyer Difficulties

Postby SarniaGrl » Fri Dec 26, 2008 6:22 pm

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone else on the forum has had bad experiences in dealing with immigration lawyers (primarily geared to TN-1) here in the U.S. If so, what type of recourse did you seek? The reason I'm asking involves a missing lawyer who will not return calls, emails, or forward any communications, to much concern. Needless to say, the job is at risk as a result of the lawyers actions - or lack thereof. Back home (Ontario) we have the Law Society of Upper Canada, any ideas on what to do next?

Is he a lawyer? Or just a consultant? If he's a consultant there's not much you can do. Bona-fide lawyers are usually registered with the AILA.

Yes, he's a lawyer. It's been a frustrating November, then December, and January will soon be here.

If he is a registered immigration lawyer (as opposed to someone who just decided to help out someone with immigration knowing nothing about it) he should be listed with American Immigration Lawyers Association aka AILA.

Every state also has law board, equivalent to the Law Societies back home. Google for your state.
