Implications to coverting Canadian license to US

I am on a TN visa, working in Mass., and want to apply for my motorcyle license here, but was told that before I can do that, I have to convert my Alberta driver's license to a Mass driver's license.

Does anyone know if there are serious implications (in terms of Canadian health care, taxes, residency, etc.) if I do that? I have been here for 4 years and still have my Alberta license and am concerned about switching it over as I am likely heading back to Alberta in a few years.
