import/ export

Post Sun Sep 26, 2004 12:47 pm

If you could, what would change?

If I was in charge of things (as in the world), I would export the following to Canada:

-UK traffic lights- the warnings are helpful
-round abouts - for those nasty and misunderstood four way stops
-Saturday mail delivery

From Canada, I would import the following to the UK,
-Reese Peanut Butter Cups
-Police to chase down and ticket speeders, (I miss seeing that)
proper snow removal techniques - this would involve actually removing the snow, instead of just closing the roads
-self-file income tax
-dill pickle chips

hmmmm firstly what I would bring TO Canada:
Old fasion butchers-but they can be found in Canada too

As for what I would bring FROM Canada:

Sleemans beer
Schniders hotdogs
Maple syrup
Tim Hortons
Pizza Pizza
The concept of communities but that could just be where I am
Pierre Berton books-my Mom really likes them
Modern air conditioned houses
the TTC!
Customer service
CBC Television-if we have BBC Canada why not CBC UK eh?
Royal Canadian Air Farce
The OHL-GO RANGERS!
The Maple Leafs cause-THEY RULE (except in Philidelphia that is)

I would import from Canada to UK:

Property prices
Safety on the streets
More respect for others
Streets laid out in grids
The honour culture

... and from UK to Canada:

The London job market
Better designed domestic appliances
The more competitive market for consumer goods and services
Public transport (Canada's is good, but I think the UK just has the edge)
British radio and TV, especially BBC

and I would export the following to a very cold uninhabited place, where nobody has to suffer them:

from Canada:

Not including sales tax in displayed prices
Thinking everyone in the UK is very refined, takes tea at 4pm, and knows the Queen
Employers who ask for "Canadian experience"
Employers who give only 2 weeks holiday per year

from the UK:

The yob culture/non-achievement culture in all its many manifestations
The "property ladder"
The tabloid press

I don't mind the laid-back nature of it.... what pisses me off is the lack of eye contact, lack of smiling, lack of communication, lack of acknowledgement that you are a human being.

But maybe that's just London.

Nevermind export, just get rid of the practice of using RAMP signs when they actually mean DIP... or that this bit of the road needs a ramp but we spent all our cashola on all our traffic cones..

They also have Coffee Crisp :-)
