importing my cars into the USA

Post Sat Nov 19, 2011 11:02 am

I recently moved to Michigan from Ontario for work. I imported my Toyota yesterday with the letter of compliance from Toyota Canada. I need to import my wife's Hyundai but Hyundai Canada is telling me that they will not write compliance letters anymore - they will only ensure that their vehicles meet canadian standards. How can I import this vehicle now??

Bad Hyundai!

Without the compliance letter, you cannot import the car. Talk to their Ombudsman.

Hyundai US *might* be able to help you, but the letter must come from Hyundai canada.

Trying to import my Hyundai Santa Fe into the USA. Hyundai Canada will only write a letter stating no recalls and Canadian compliance, Hyundai USA will do NOTHING. What a pain! Anyone have an answer?

I am in California with my Canadian 2009 Hyundai Elantra.
Hyundai Canada told me now that they don't give the US compliance letter, my option is to get the car approved in the US by Registered Importers. But I found just inspecting the car by an RI costs $1100.
Did anybody do this before? Does Elantra 2009 need any modifications to be compliant with US regulations?
