Jay,
The moment you arrive in the
UAE get yourself a prepaid telephone number (the Service provider is called Etisalat and their prepaid service is called Wasel); for 165 dirhams you will get a telephone number (that begins with a 050-xxx-xxxx or 056-xxx-xxxx) and 10 dirhams worth of credit. Put that number on your CV and start submitting it on the following sites:
bayt dot com
gulftalent dot com
monstergulf dot com
naukrigulf dot com
charterhouesme dot ae
and of course visit GulfNews (gulfnews dot com) and look at their Jobs section.
It is customary here to attach your picture to your cv, you dont have to do that though. Also, some HR questions here are illegal in Canada (such as asking you about your religion, your marital status, and so on and so forth): answer them and get it out of the way.
Last but not least, since you are int he Media and IT section then it is best that you approach The National newspaper / Abu Dhabi Media Group because they hire tons of Canadians. Another interesting venue would be to approach an entity called TwoFour54, which is a government-owned Media group. See what they have. IF that does not work, go to Dubai Media City, get their company guidebook and start calling people. I think you can get it online by going to tecom dot ae and fiddling around there.
Good luck with your job hunt. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Regards,
Moe.
