Income Tax in the UK

I'm having a horrible time trying to sort out my income taxes in the UK. I know I've made less than the cut-off to get it all back, but I have no idea how to even go about getting that sorted out. Google hasn't been much help either - trying to locate my local tax office was a complete waste of time as none of the places that came up were recognisable as tax offices. I have looked at all the documents on HMR&CS that I could find, and they were really not helpful at all. Help anyone?
