info border troubles in schengen

Post Mon Mar 23, 2009 12:04 pm

Hi
I am currently in austria, I know I cannot stay more than 90 days (cause i have no long stay visa or whatsoever) but i was wondering : if I leave Schengen and the Eu and then come back, then leave again, then come back etc ... can that cause me any troubles at the border ? my passport is already quite full with stamps and visas, but if I always respect the 90 days and then leave ... what could happen ?
anyone did it ?

You can only stay in the Schengen zone for 90 out of 180 days. Going to a non-Schengen country (e.g. the UK) does not reset your 90 days.

Hi, I just saw your older post but I wanted to ask if you had any troubles exiting & entering the Schengen states when you travelled(?) If so, what were your worst problems & why?

Thanks!

The maximum length of stay in Europe for non European Union passport holders is determined by the Schengen accord and is currently limited to 90 days within any 180 day period. The important thing to note is that you may not leave the Schengen Visa area for a day and return to restart the 90 day clock. In other words, you must be absent from the Schengen area for at least 90 days in a 180 day period to be legal.

What Happens if I Overstay my Schengen Visa and I'm caught?

Each country has its own rules. You may not be allowed to return for a period of time or you may be fined or worse a three year ban. Europe is not really a travel free zone to non EU citizens ... be really careful

examples as follows & read the comments/discussion within those links

Europe Outside of Schengen

An exception to the 90 day Schengen visa scenario occurs when visiting the non-Schengen UK, where US, Canadian, and Australian nationals are given a 6 month visa upon entering. This visa does not apply to the Schengen area.
