Information on moving tax home from can to US?

I would like to know if anyone has any infomation about the pros/cons of moving ones tax home from canada to the US if i'm planning on permanently moving to the US. What are the steps i need to do from canada to acomplish this?

By treaty it is very simple, and is not really a choice. You move and begin to work in US: you are US tax resident.Period.

Its definitely not that simple. I know from first hand experience that once you leave canada, you still have to pay canadian taxes as long as you are still a resident "for tax purposes". Failure to do so and you'll be in for an unfortunate surprise like i was. You have to file your canadian taxes and include your "world income" in the calculations.

But i'm looking for information about severing ties so that i can avoid having to pay any canadian taxes

As I said, and please follow up at serbinski, but when you move to a tax treaty country like US, as soon as you outweigh your Cdn ties with US ones, you are US resident. Canada can even force you to be non-resident despite having many of the ties which would seem to indicate Cdn residency.
