Hi Guys

Need some advice on car insurance in Canada while living abroad.

I´m getting the run around from car insurance companies right now. Currently I´m living in Spain but will be returing to Canada for 3 months this summer. I would like to insure my car for full coverage while I´m there and them reduce the coverage after I´m gone to only theft and fire while it is in storage but I can´t seem to find a company that will do this.

Do any of you currently insure your vehicles that you left in Canada? If so, what kind of coverage do you have and what company are you with?

I´m also thinking of just insuring the vehicle for the three months I´m back home and then just canceling the coverage when I return back to Spain.

Would that create a problem if I wanted coverage later on this car and there has been a gap period of no coveage on the car?

Thanks so much for your help. I hate car insurance!

Ontario? You're screwed man. We've been getting screwed by insurance for the last few years, they even stopped giving out complimentary lube. On a serious note, insurance companies usually require you to have coverage for at least 6 months before dropping liability. As for canceling a policy, you can do it all you want but be prepared to pay a buyout fee of around $200. Are you calling insurance companies direct, or going through a broker? If you haven't tried a broker, do so. Tell them your situation and they'll do the run around for you. Anyways, good luck with the search.
