International schools

We're a Canadian family living in Tokyo and are moving to Sydney next year. As the school calendar differs from that of North America, how have your children adjusted? Did they skip ahead or stay behind 1/2 year? Also, any recommendations on good neighbourhoods to live and schools would be greatly appreciated. I understand there is an American School that follows a North American calendar - anyone familiar with it? My kids are aged 10, 7 and 3. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Not sure if you ever got any answers, but we're wondering the same thing. My husband and I and our 2 children are leaving NL, CAN for Australia for one year. I worry about the differing school calendars Sept-June here vs Jan/Feb-Dec, especially as it's just for a year. I don't want my boys to miss a year because we got the travel bug. They are also in french immersion.a further complication. I would love to find an elementary school on the North American school calendar that has a good french immersion program. Does such a thing even exist?
