Hi all:

I'm Canadian from T.O. and I'm moving to the sunny Cayman Islands next month! Yikes! Though I've studied abroad before, I've never actually worked abroad nor been to the Caymans - though from all I've read it sounds like a great place! Very Happy

Hey there, I'm Cheekie and I am looking at/interested to the point of obsessed about moving to the UK from Toronto.
Biggest issues are of course the Visa as I have missed ancestry by one measley generation!

Any ideas? I also have a child that I share custody of, so that could be tricky as well.
However, my entire family is from the UK and I really would love to learn and experience it, and share that with my son.

Any tips would be very very appreciated!

(oh ya, forgot to mention that I am a writer (unpublished) looking to start/complete my first novel in the UK, as I plan on having it set there.I am also interested in taking some courses at some of the amazing art schools in ldn.

I am an Event producer/manager by trade, and have posted my resume with a couple of these recruitment agencies)

so, with that said, any tips?

What's up everyone. Well, I guess I will introduce myself. I'm 22, originally from Halifax Nova Scotia, but have been living in Toronto Ontario for the past two years, and am currently finising up my BA in Criminology. I'm hoping to travel to Europe in a year, and just wanting to work abroad and gain some worldy experience.

I think I would like to travel to England first, and then make my way east, see where I end up. I plan to study to obtain my Graduate in Social Sciences, possibly in another country, but I have no idea where!

I came to this site because I need to start to gather some information on how I'm going to manage living and working in other countries. Hopefully, I'll get some good advice from you all!

Anyway, nice to be here.

Hi everyone!
I'll be attending a Russian language training school in St. Petersburg for two months starting at the end of August 08. So technically I guess I'm not an ex-pat. I am, however, a 40 year old military wife and thus moved all over the bloody place for the past umpteen years.does that count for anything? Wink Regardless, nice to be here and hopefully connect with other Canadians in SPB while I'm there.
I'm a business consultant and my husband is in the Artillery and has been in Afghanistan for 12 of the past 15 months - he should join this board for crying out loud - I'm certain he feels like an ex-pat! We have two interesting and unique kids, one is 12 and one is 22 (he was gone a lot). We are thinking about retiring in Edinburgh Scotland mainly because I just can't get enough rain in my life, ok, seriously because we love the place. So perhaps some day I'll be a "real" member of this website. Until then, cheers dears! I have to go put the case of Sleeman's in the "beer fridge" - waiting for my husbands return (17 more sleeps) from the giant cat box. (Those are not his words, he loves the place - ahem. Right.)

Hi Cheekie1969.Have you contacted the British High Commission in Ottawa. They would be an option, also check out the forum index and the sub category designed for the UK.has some great ideas listed in there. We have been here in the Uk since '99 having experienced the same obsession as you, however, has since faded to the point that we cannot wait to return next August. No regrets though!
Good Luck

Hello everyone,

I just came across this site while deciding that i have to start doing some research on how to stay in Germany longer. I am from Vancouver Canada:) I must say it was pretty hard to leave Vancouver but i have now been in Erfurt, Germany, (central) since the middle of May 2007. I am under the youth mobility program which entitles myself to one year in Germany. But once i came here i found an englisch speaking position and started working and loved it still do! I am so greatful! Is there a way to extend my stay in Germany since i have a job that no other german could replace. I have a job in IT support, englisch speaking only to U.k. users, north amercians, etc everyone in the world that speaks englisch:). I am also taking german which is intense. But also a given. I obtained my visa in Vancouver pretty easy they sent the request over to the German embassy and got it in 3 days. Anyways no problem in getting here but now its just a matter of figuring out how to stay here. The reason i came here was because i met a German in Vancouver and we fell in love.

I must say Vancouver is constantly in my heart, making it harder to accept the German way of living and the country in general. But that is not going to stop me from making a life here. It is easy to judge, and i would like so much to believe that Vancouver is a 1000 times better in so many ways but that would not be the best thing to do right now.

I would really appreciate some insights and advice would help with the whole visa thing. Until then
Danke!
