Dear All

NOT JUST A HIKE!

I am writing to ask if anyone would support “Not Just a Hike” a solo fundraising trek across Canada currently being undertaken in aid of The PSP Association by Sam Thomas?

Sam is a 21 year old from Oxford whose grandmother has been diagnosed with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) and to raise funds for The PSP Association he has committed to walk across Canada. This is a fantastic commitment to make and Sam wants to raise as much money for PSP as possible,

He has set up a website (which I cannot share the link to, due to spammers apparently) where more information and updates on his journey can be found.

We have offered to help Sam and in both fund and profile raising and anything you can do to support this trek would be very much appreciated.

PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease estimated to affect over 10,000 people in the UK at any one time. PSP has no gender or race boundaries, although it is unusual for diagnosis below 40. Those affected by PSP will be robbed of the basic every day functions that most of us take for granted. Over time affecting sight, movement and mobility, speech and the swallowing reflex. In most cases the mind remains unaffected, trapped in a body that will no longer function. Life expectancy from onset of symptoms to death varies from person to person but can be up to 7 years.

Despite this much can be done to improve the quality of life of those living with PSP, and to support their families and carers during this traumatic time.

The PSP Association was founded in 1994 and is the only organisation dedicated to helping everyone affected with PSP, their families and carers, and promoting and funding research into causes, treatments and a cure. We provide a range of services to ensure people living with PSP have access to the information, care and support that is vital to quality of life.

We work with medical, health and social care professionals raising awareness of PSP and providing education, training and advice on a diverse range of subjects, from better diagnosis to managing the disease from onset to death. We also work to influence decision makers at national and local levels to raise awareness and improve services.
I hope you will be able to support Sam in any way you can. This can be done by contacting me directly.
Thank you

Hello! Ottawa native here! I'll be moving to the UK (Leeds) in January 2010 with my husband to pursue Physiotherapy at Leeds Met. I'm 28 and he is 31. This is a career I've been looking into for a number of years and since its nearly impossible to get into a school in Ontario, I looked abroad.

Any other Canadians in that area?

Hi everyone,

I'm Rayne and at the present time I am living in BC. I am a Canadian Citizen. I am very seriously considering moving to Portugal (Porto area) next year and I'm very excited about it! I've been researching for a while and found this site and it looks like there is a great group of people here. If anyone has advice about moving to Portugal it will be happily received. I am in the process of learning the language, I thought it would be a good start. My interests are singing (Opera / Art Songs in many languages!), designing and making jewelry, cooking, working out, cinema, and reading (history / science fiction / philosophy) to name a few...

I look forward to meeting you!

Cheers,

Rayne

Hello everyone!
This is the first and only forum I've ever joined, and today was my first day.....I'm really jazzed by the chat and the info that's being passed back and forth.....I lived in Canada for a year and a half (see previous posting 'Can you help me?' after 23 years in California....Am a Brit at present living in S. Ireland, finishing up a homeopathy degree. Am living on an organic farm in beautiful South Kilkenny.
I miss the sun and the beautiful Kootenay Mountains where I lived....I hope it's ok to be on this site, as I'm not a Canadian...but LOVE everything that is!
Thanks....Angela
