Irish Citizenship eligability

Postby patrisha » Mon Mar 10, 2008 9:59 pm

Hi! Just signed up. I really want to find out if I am eligible for an Irish passport. User ashschu just posted that they had a link with all the info. It would sure save me calling up relatives from the past for info! Could you forward it to me please. Or anyone else with some helpful advice for my search for info. Thank you so much!

The short answer is if any of your parents, or grandparents were born in Ireland (or Northern Ireland) you can apply for Irish Citizenship.

You must send off original birth certificates for yourself, parent and grandparent (if your parent was not born in Ireland). Irish certificates are ordered from Dublin. The entire process is very inexpensive considering all of the benefits. I think I had rec'd my Irish passport about 6 months after starting the process. Contact the Irish Embassy in Ottawa.
