Yes, I read on another immigration forum that EB-1 requires TONS of paperwork and the proof of credentials to back it up. This is a category you sponsor yourself for if you know for certain, you're eligible for it.

You said you are so before dishing out the $8000 for an attourney, maybe you should at least get legal consultation then make your decision from there.

Well, he did get legal consult, that is where the $8000 for EB1 came from.

Here's general adice that applies accross the board: When you go to someone for advice, and they suggest a course of action that will bring them money, I would take the advice, but have someone perform the service.

Oops I must have overlooked the part where he got the consulting. But you are right about having to make sure the the consult is right and not for money

Thank you for the reply. When we sat down for the consult we discussed a few different options to get us green cards. The consult was free, the lawyer seemed legit and came well recommended. My wife and I talked after that now we knew some different options we could research the possibility of doing this ourselves. that's why I'm on here I guess is to see if anyone had first hand experience with the EB1 or if we should try getting crads through her.
I would sure hate to spend the 8 grand if I didn't have to.

Getting GC thru her job will be lengthy and will not result in you being allowed to work for at least a couple of years.

So, If you truly are EB1, then you should be filing now; you are losing at least $10,000 a month not working, right? So every minute you waffle on this is costing you money, right?

Typically EB1s are extremely sought after, right?

Its quite unusual for Eb1 to take a long break in their extaordinary careers? Are you OK?

Let us know how it goes....

When I moved to the USA .. I hired a lawyer .. the paper work was a pain and if you do something wrong they don't call and tell you ... anyway I did not pay 8K for a Resident Green Card ... it was more like 3K ... and it was easy .. simple .. We just stood in line with our attorney = Interviewed and that was that - The Attorney did all the work.
Shop around 8K sounds steep.

Yes I am losing out on income but we planned for it because we didn't know about the EB1 route. I sold my business in Canada so we are ok for money for the time being but of course would love to start earing again asap. The lawyer also said the gov accepts $1000 each to speed up the process to a couple months for EB1. All told it will be pricey but as Angelson said we are losing that much per month easy by not having the CG. Thanks for your concern and help. I will definatley shop around.

Huh?????? Since when?

Yeah at this point it would be an excellent idea if you shop around. Sounds like this lawyer is looking for a sweet payday.

The $1000 is for CIS premium processing of the I-140, drem. Been around for years. It's legit. EB1's can be done in weeks.

I'm still not convinced that a businessman can get self-sponsored EB1.
