It is all about the timing............ (UK ancestry visa)

Post Sun Nov 21, 2010 6:54 am

If correct there are really 3 stages to obtaining the ancestry visa

1) Online application
2) Biometrics - must be done within 30 days of online application
3) Mailing package - must be done within 10 days of having bio done

===========
They say you cannot apply more than 3 mo from date of travel, sadly this is very vague.
Do they mean you cannot do the initial ONLINE APPLICATION more then 3 months from date of departure?
Or is it you cannot take your BIOMETRICS more than 3 months from the date of the departure?
OR is it you cannot MAIL the package to Ottawa more than 3 months from the date of the departure?
===========
You need to have bank statements for the past 3 months
Again similar questions. Do I need 3 months of bank statements prior to the day I took the online app or 3 mo prior to when I took the bio?
===========

Has anyone applied with having bank statements of a GDP account instead of a normal Canadian dollars account? I hear 3000 dollars is the minimum, is a minimum of 3000 GDP instead of dollars required if you have a GBP account?

Also has anyone just dumped allot of cash in their account very close to 3 mo before they applied. I am wondering if that would raise any red flags. I am in a personal situation where I need to have my account drained as mush as possible at all times.

thx allot :)

Hi,

As I understand it, the order you listed is correct. My wife and I applied in that order and had no problems.

In a nutshell you can start the process 3 months prior to your travel date. The clock starts when you submit the online application

If you visited the Wordbridge Canada site and review their FAQ:

How long does my visa application take?

You should make your application in good time, but not normally more than 3 months before you plan to travel. Please bear in mind that time is needed to process your application and return your passport to you. Letters cannot be issued to enable you to enter the UK.

Based on this you should first decide when you want to leave. We are leaving Feb 1 2011 therefore the earliest we could apply was Nov 1 2010.

Based on your order of things:

Online App- no more than 3 months prior to intended travel date
Biometrics- must be completed within 30 days of the date of your completed online application.
Mailing- The package must reach the British High Commission with the 10 days following your biometrics appointment.

===========
You need to have bank statements for the past 3 months
Again similar questions. Do I need 3 months of bank statements prior to the day I took the online app or 3 mo prior to when I took the bio?

This is a question better answered by a visa person who might have a better understanding of what is and is not important.

Has anyone applied with having bank statements of a GDP account instead of a normal Canadian dollars account? I hear 3000 dollars is the minimum, is a minimum of 3000 GDP instead of dollars required if you have a GBP account? The only minimum that I have ever come across is the one listed for the Youth Mobility Visa which is about $3000CAD. Everyone seems to use that as a benchmark because they do not publish any other information. I have an account with Llyods TSB and included those with the application. I can not say if they view that as being better than a Canadian account.

Also has anyone just dumped allot of cash in their account very close to 3 mo before they applied. I am wondering if that would raise any red flags. I am in a personal situation where I need to have my account drained as mush as possible at all times. You would want to add funds outside the 3 month window to be safe. I suspect that any thing out of the ordinary could be considered a red flag.

Cheers,

Robert

For a UK Ancestry application, you must provide 6 months of bank statements. The latest statement must not be older than one month from to the date of your application (the day you submit your online application).

There are no specific requirements regarding maintenance funds, but you have to have enough money to be able to live in the UK without having recourse to public funds. Savings of 3,000 CAD should be alright.
