J 1 Application

Post Wed Nov 07, 2007 4:54 pm

Hello - I am Canadian and have been offered a position in the US and plan to apply for a J1. The company will be providing me with an extensive training program but from what I understand it is ongoing. How do I create the Placement Plan section in the DS-7002 form where it asks you to break down the training into phases and to attach a timeline to each. I contacted AILT (American Immigration Law Foundation) and they told me that I had to use their forms - but I'm not sure how if the training is ongoing.

Also, how can I best explain the reasoning that an American employer would be willing to "train" a Canadian for 18-months knowing that they will be returning to their country? I need to know this to answer the question in the application why they're supporting this trainee. And also how do I prove that this position is not going to result in productive employement or be taking away a position from an American?

I know people who have done this route, but I'm just trying to figure out how to position everything so that I'm approved and for my employer to feel confortable in supporting it.

Any ideas?.

Thank you.

J-1s are really cumbersome, why not a TN?
