Job application-Immigration Questions

Post Mon Feb 01, 2010 5:51 pm

Hi all,

I am filling out employment application online and I have come across these two questions.

1)Are you legally authorized to work in the United States?
2)Will you now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H1-B or other work visa)?

I am wondering if it's a No for question 1 and a Yes for question 2 even if it's a TN?They also provide a space to explain and I am wondering what exactly should I put there?

Many thanks! :)

Yes that is correct. You could say something like "As a Canadian citizen, I am eligible and qualified to apply for TN status/employment authorization as a <TN qualified occupation>, which I can routinely obtain within an hour at the Canada-US border by presenting a properly worded job offer letter".

(There are a few other things, such as proof of citizenship and proof of your degree, that are needed at the border, but usually the TN offer letter is the only thing the employer need worry about.)
