Job change help!

Post Fri Nov 02, 2007 4:10 pm

I have been working in the US on a TN visa for a year, and I just had the TN renewed a couple weeks ago. My boyfriend has been offered a job in another state and we are trying to figure out what that means for me if I move with him. I would have to quit my current job, move, and then look for work in the new city, but from what I've read so far my TN status doesn't allow that.
Is that true? Any suggestion on how I can pull this off? Do I have to move back to Canada after I quit my job and look for work from there or can I move to the new city and be considered a tourist while I look for work?
We're also planning on getting engaged in the near future but we would prefer not to rush that just to "work the system", but. if I quit my job would it help me stay in the US to get married sooner than later?
Thanks for any help!

Leave and re-enter as a visitor if you want to be strictly legal about it.

Yep, if you quit your TN job, you are required to leave the US immediately. You can return to Canada and look for a job from there.
