Jobs for Canadians in Puerto Vallarta or Bucerias?

Post Wed Mar 05, 2008 7:42 pm

Hello every one.

My wife and I currently live in Calgary. We have very stable careers (I'm a government administrator , my wife is a licensed practical nurse (LPN)) We visited Mexico, (near Bucerias and a short drive from Puerto Vallarta) last year for a few weeks. We are going for another visit in April. We like the area so much we are interested in investigating if Canadians can work there and what the job prospects (and payscale) are down there how hard it is to move. Is it worth the risk?. Any suggestions or advice would be warmly received. I'm turning 41 this year and my wife turns 35 so we still have a bit of energy for work left in both of us :P

If you query "Canadians in Bucerias" on google. there is a website that might be helpful.I tried to send the site but not permitted in this forum. My wife and I loved that area. San Francisco, Sayulita etc.

A couple of quick comments:

I suggest you visit during the worst weather months (August or September) to see if it’s to your liking.

I personally don’t know the Bucerias job market potential. I live in the Lake Chapala area of Mexico (near Guadalajara). When I’m asked by people relocating to our area about job opportunities, I usually offer the following:

1. Mexico does not want you to take a job away from a Mexican citizen.
2. People that are entrepreneurial tend to be more successful at making the transition to working in Mexico.
3. Spanish fluency is a plus.
4. Provide goods and services to Gringos. You understand them. You speak their language, etc.
5. Do a Internet based business.

Another option, may be recruiting English speaking Mexicans for jobs in Alberta. I have a friend that is Canadian and lives in Guadalajara and this is his business. If you are interested in more info send me an email through my website at the bottom of this post.
