What kind of visa are you on? You must have had some sort of visa to enter the country.

If you're under 30 you can get a Working Holiday Makers visa. That would allow you to get short term work. Another option is to try and find and find an employer to sponsor you for a temporary visa. But to do that you'd probably need a trade or skill sort and a job that is somewhat in demand.

Other than that I'm not sure what to say. We have a permanent work visa that took us a lot of time, effort and money to get. So I wouldn't even go into how to get one of those.

First of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR A REPLY.
Second thing I tried to get the information about working visa, and to apply for the first one you have to be outside of the country. Is there really no way out from this situation, I can't believe I got myself into it. Well I have two secretary diplomas, I don't know if they will accept it. I know the computer inside out, I mean Microsoft Office etc. But with canadian accent, I don't know.

Can you get a cheap flight to New Zealand to apply for the Holiday Visa? My cousin stayed went there on one of these visas and when it was about to expire she went to New Zealand and applied there, then came back with the new visa. Just an idea. I'd have to double check on how that all works.

I'll have a look around and see if I can find anything for you.

I had a look around the net and I'm sorry I couldn't find anything to help. As far as I know the only way you can legally work is to go outside the country to get a working holiday visa and then come back.

New Zealand also has working holiday visas so you might be able to apply for one while in Australia. Then in theory, go to New Zealand, apply for Australia visa, and work a bit to save up some money. Then return to Australia with the visa that allows you to work.

Aside from that I don't know what else to say. If you're really stuck you could try calling a migration agent for some advice. You could always try to find work under the table (paid in cash). I'd be very careful about that though since both you and the employer could be fined (about $10,000 I think). Plus you could be deported as well. Not something I'd normally mention, but if you're desperate for cash it might help in the short term.

Also you haven't said exactly what kind of visa your on at the moment. Do you have an ETA, electronic travel authority, or do you have a tourist visa? It might be helpful to know that.

You should also post your question on this website:

You can get lots of help on visas there and some migration agents also give advice from time to time.

Good luck,

Haley
