I had a look around the net and I'm sorry I couldn't find anything to help. As far as I know the only way you can legally work is to go outside the country to get a working holiday visa and then come back.
New Zealand also has working holiday visas so you might be able to apply for one while in Australia. Then in theory, go to New Zealand, apply for Australia visa, and work a bit to save up some money. Then return to Australia with the visa that allows you to work.
Aside from that I don't know what else to say. If you're really stuck you could try calling a migration agent for some advice. You could always try to find work under the table (paid in cash). I'd be very careful about that though since both you and the employer could be fined (about $10,000 I think). Plus you could be deported as well. Not something I'd normally mention, but if you're desperate for cash it might help in the short term.
Also you haven't said exactly what kind of visa your on at the moment. Do you have an ETA, electronic travel authority, or do you have a tourist visa? It might be helpful to know that.
You should also post your question on this website:

You can get lots of help on visas there and some migration agents also give advice from time to time.
Good luck,
