Just got UK ancestry visa

Post Tue Jun 30, 2009 2:07 am

Hi everyone,
I have just recieved my UK ancestry visa a couple days ago. (I currently live in Hong Kong, so I applied here).
I used this webiste alot to get info when I was applying, I just wanted to share a list of what I included I my application for anyone else currently applying for their's...
-all the birth/marriage certificates they requested (my original B.C. long form birth cert did not include my parent's name on it, so I ordered a new one that did. If you pay a bit more they can ship it by courier within 24hrs)
-a letter from my boyfriend (who is from the UK) saying that he would financially support me if needed and that I would stay with him and his parents rent free until we found a place of our own.
-a letter from his parents confirming this
-a utilitly bill from his parent's confirming their address in the UK
-a letter from a friend in the UK that works in the same industry as me saying that she would help me network and introduce me to people there to help me find job
-a letter of intent that I intend to find employment in the UK
- I don't keep my bank statements (I also included a note that explained this), so I included my pay slip's from my last 3 months of work and a certificate of balance from my bank with the balance of my bank account (only about $3000 canadian)
-and obviously, my canadian passport

I know alot of people say that you need at least 3 months bank statements and that you should prove that you've been applying for jobs over there as well, but I didn't have these and it was fine. I would guess it probably helped that I have my boyfriend over there as well maybe?

Anyway, all of this worked for me. Good luck!

Actually, for ancestry, you really just need to prove your lineage. They don't seem to care if you have somewhere to stay, or connections. I provided bank statements with my application, but it was pretty obvious when I got my paperwork back that all they looked at were my passport and the birth and marriage certificates.

Hey Guys,

I am new to the site so I appologize if this has been answered before..I am about to apply for an Ancestry Visa to move to the UK for a year to be with my girlfriend who is going to be there for school. I read that one stipulation is you need to be looking for work in the UK, but my Canadian company is going to let me keep my job and work remotely from over there is that going to be a problem? should I just lie and tell them I will be looking for work instead?

Also has anyone been refused? I am wondering if there are any tips to make this goes as smooth as possible as she leaves mid October and I want to go with her.

Thanks for any helpful hints

Hi I am in the process of getting ready to apply for my ancestry visa. I have all the relevant birth certificates to show ancestry, I have enough money saved I think?? I have my Biometrics appointment booked. Do I have to bring anything with me to the biometrics appointment? Is there certain information that I am supposed to be giving them at the time of the appointment? Also it says that you have to let them know of any traffic violations...is this for your entire driving history since you started driving? I have lived in three different provinces since I started driving and have probably gotten some kind of speeding ticket in all of them. My problem is in some provinces you can only get a drivers abstract that goes back only 5 years which would not cover the time that I drove there...are they only looking for major traffic offenses?? or even just within the last 5 years?? Also is it true that I would not be covered for healthcare until I have been living in the UK for a least a year?? Please help :)

Hi Marnie,
Where did you hear that you had to tell them about your traffic violations? I never did. I'm sure if you had a DUI you would have to say something as I'm guessing that would be on your criminal record, but other than that I've never heard of having to tell about other driving record stuff. I didn't include any on my application if that helps?

Also, for healthcare, you're eligible for there public NHS healthcare for free as soon as you get to the UK.
