Tyler, have you thought of taking a different slant on foreign work? While Cali may be your goal, you may to consider a working holiday-maker visa. As a Canadian citizen (and under 30) you would be eligible for a variety of countries (you'll have to do some research on which) and you could expand your horizons and collect a paycheck. It would also give you a new perspective in where and what you ultimately want to do and what direction to take in achieving your goals while giving you that needed change of scenery to refocus.

There are other forums on this site, it wouldn't hurt to make some inquiries and see if there are others on the forums who could share their experiences with you.

Thank you for the suggestion !. That was how I was going to get to England. I thought about going to Australia too, but..... I would just be spending more money, and not getting any closer to my dream. With all of this, I felt I have traveled enough in my life so far, and it's time to finish University, get a degree, and move on. I wish you could get the holiday work VISA in the States, that would make everything much easier.

MC, keep your racist and ignorant comments for somewhere else. Canadian Immigrants are far better educated than American Immigrants. Canada places a far higher priority on immigrants skills and education so they may be exploited by locals once they come here.

You misinterpreted my remarks the wrong way, it has nothing to do with race or any kind of contest for that matter.

Just don't show up here and start pushing senior bloggers like Steve around who is right a great deal of the time and has helped a great number of people with immigration issues. Even if Steve happened to be wrong about maintaining foreign residence for TN, I certainly wouldn't be arguing with his other 2000 plus blogs because he is right on the money.

Stick around because you have a lot to learn about U.S. Immigration.

Just a little update, I met a good friend that has finished her BA in nursing. She has a job fair to attend in San Diego in September. She say's job recruiters have been harassing her to go to the States ever since she has finished her Nursing degree. So, it looks like I will be going towards the right profession !. Let's just hope it stays that way in a few years.

The University in my home town has the 4 year program, as well as a fast tracked 3 year program that I will be applying too hopefully next month. Wish me luck !.

I'm inthe DC area and just finished school to obtain my ADN in Nursing. Jobs for new grads are scarce here in the DC area. A fair # of jobs if you have experience, but not for new grads. The census in the hospitals here are pretty low at times. Guess people are putting off surgery if it isnt required. Both my Sisters are RN's back in Canada, and they have stated the hiring isnt as fast as it used to be. They have never really had job interviews, more of when can you start, lol, but that doesnt seem to be the situation now a days. Best of luck with the schooling, lot of hard work in front of ya. But if I can do it, most can,lol

Thanks for the information Flames. Just from what I have heard from people around me, they are hurting for Nurses. Perhaps it depends on the school you attended, and the education type ?, I cannot say.

Also, I hate to jump around here people, but an additional question. Can you receive a VISA, or a TN VISA of you are part of the Police Force or the OPP ?.

Thanks again

Steve has a blog? Cool. Do you have the URL?

If you paid attention to the post you mention, Steve was wrong about the residence requirements for H1B's, it turns out there are none. I am sure he appreciated learning that. I found his take on residence for TN-1s very enlightening. I appreciate him pointing that out to me.

Did you read Steve's post after mine? He agrees with me, and disagrees with you. Maybe you should learn a bit about Canadian and US immigration before you go out spewing your venom.

Finally, why would Steve or the person receiving advice not want to know the most accurate information possible? That is why this is a forum.

no it really doesnt depend on ur schooling(of course in most cases, the more education one has the better--but being male RN helps too, lol), depends on the AREA you are going to. The census in hospitals around here are way down. last unit where i did my preceptorship on at times only had 10 patients on the unit, when normally they have over 30. So yes there is a nursing shortage, but hospitals in the DC area can get away with it at the present time. Best of luck

Have a look at http://www.tnvisaexpert.com/ for the list of NAFTA approved professions eligible for the TN.

I don't think police are on it.

I wasn't wrong iirc, I was wrong about H-1. TN-1 requires your stay to be temporary which the way the CBP manual is written implies some ties to another country, but not a residence per se.

Haha, no I haven't. Not about immigration at any rate.

My problem was I remember seeing it on the form or in the instructions, but I-129 is for various categories.
Steve.
