K-1 visa ap: forgot to notarize documents

Post Fri Aug 24, 2007 10:18 am

Hi there,

We filed my K-1 (fiance visa) on July 28 2007. When we read all the guides to the application, none of them said anything about needing documents notarized. Later I read something different.

Does anyone know if this is true.that copies of his birth certificate etc. need to be notarized?

If we messed up on the notarization thing, is the application invalidated, or does USCIS just write back requesting it be done properly?

Thanks,
CB

Nothing that I can remember needs to be notarized for the petition process, unless its changed recently.

When I went thru the K3 process (similar to K1 but for already marrieds) the only thing we had to have notarized was the I-134 affidavit of support, and that wasn't until the interview stage.

If anything that you sent is missing or incorrect, USCIS will send you an RFE (request for further evidence) detailing what they want to see. Or they'll reject the entire package and send it all back to him to start over again.

Has the check cleared his bank account? He should be getting some sort of receipt soon to let him know that they've received the package.

The check hasn't cleared, and no NOA has been received. for that matter, delivery confirmation hasn't been received. However he is currently in Puerto Rico, which often explains delays.

I also read somewhere that the July 30 fee increase caused a huge influx of petitions, so maybe Vermont has not even touched it yet.

Yep, the fee increase at the end of July cause a whole bunch of applications to be sent in to try and beat it. Waiting a month for the NOA isn't unusual, I'm thinking it'll take a bit longer for a while.
