Kind of Freaking Out / Questions Re. YMS Approval

Post Wed May 04, 2011 2:52 pm

Okay, a little backstory first I suppose:

My husband and I just found out that the youth mobility scheme existed this past weekend. We are kind of freaking out now (we want to take advantage of this oppurtunity)

We wouldnt be able to afford to leave until the end of Summer 2012

Here is the problem. My husband is turning 31 THIS November.

If he gets his application in before he turns 31, will he still be able to travel under this Visa in Summer 2012, or is he done for?

We only want to live there for about a year, so not utilizing the entire 24 months isnt a giant loss to us.

I dont even know where to start with my questions though. Do you have to have a plce to live before you apply? When you land?

Ill have a thousand more questions once these couple are answered lol

Any help is appreciated, with such a tight timeline, Im kind of stressed about it

I know you have to apply for YMS's within 3 months of your departure date. If you're only going to spend a year there I might suggest applying earlier than you actually plan to leave. You don't have to have a place to live for the YMS, but when landing in the UK you have to fill out a landing card saying where you'll be. Hope this helped a abit.

Ohhh, so you mean if he applies in mid November, he has to leave by mid January?

Well, basically if you apply in November you have to set a date to depart no later than February. You can leave later than your date of departure, but not earlier.
