I have been an L1 commuter residing in Canada.

I changed jobs (a step up!), and my new job is entirely within Canada. I know by changing employers my L1 status is no longer valid. However, I dont need it, either.

What do I do to notify USCIS that I am off status ? I certainly dont want to make another trip to the border just for the purposes of handing in my I-94 card.

I would be fine to just remove it from my passport and "do nothing", and not even mention it should I go to the US for, say, a vacation or trip or something. However, I dont want to appear to be "on" my L1 for years and years until it expires (L1A = 7 years?).

I checked the USCIS website, looked for others asking the same question, and have not turned up anything in my searches. Of course, the national service center cannot be called from home to ask what is probably a simple and silly question.

Anyway, is there a form I should fill out to let them know I am "off" ? Should I send in my I-94 card ?

I think you can just mail them your I-94 card, with a note saying you're not working for that company anymore.

When I got laid off from my job with my L1B employer, I just handed it over my next trip down for vacation, which was just a couple weeks after I was terminated.

You mail it to the service centre in Kentucky with a letter of explanation.
