L1 Visa

Post Sat Sep 20, 2008 11:28 am

Hi All

I will be applying for L1 visa shortly. I am a Canadian citizen. I would appreciate if anyone can shed a lil light on the following questions.

1. Is the L1 visa issue process similar to TN i.e issued at the border on basis of employment letter or will I have go through the interview proces with American Embassy and get Visa on my passport while still in canada.

2. Is there a time limit to enter US once the visa is granted? (if the visa is issued to whilst still in canada)

3. If I get visa validated at the border then can I come back to Canada to wrap up a few things & finally move?

Any help is great appreciated.

Thanks.

For Canadians, L1Bs are done at the POE at the time you cross the border, you don't need to go to the consulate for it.

You can get it and then turn around and go back to Canada if you want, its multiple entry.

1) non-immigrant categories for Canadian citizens don't require a visa (with some exceptions, but not L). You get the supporting documentation from your employer, you apply at the POE which should take a few minutes if the paperwork is in order, but bear in mind they don't process the application, that is done after you enter, (they let you in while it is being processed) so make sure the paperwork is in order because the guy at the POE may not;
2) They generally won't take the application more than ten days prior to when you start work (as identified by the employer in the paperwork);
3) Yes. Remember it's not a visa, but you still get charged $820.
Steve.
