L1B Approved at Peace Bridge

I just got my L1B approved this week. What a relief as i can now plan my move to the US. I thought i should write something on here as i found any L1B info i read was helpful.

Basis for my application:
I work for a canadian company who has a US office. I was offered position in US office. As per lawyers suggestion i went for L1B as a specialized knowledge employee. Paperwork with lawyer took about 2 months but likely could have been done sooner. I was extremely nervous for this because i do not have a university degree. I have 3 years university under my belt but my lawyer assured me this would not be an issue as i have 7+ years experience with the company. I was also nervous since i have previously been arrested (do not have record though, all charges were dropped). Again, lawyer assured me this is not an issue and if was asked about it to be completely honest as it goes a long way.

I went to the Peace Bridge/Buffalo POE. It was packed and extremely backed up. My lawyer was kind enough to drive down with me, thought it wasnt necessary since he could not come to interview with me, it was more to calm my nerves. We patiently sat for about 2 hours before being called up. I went up to booth and here were the questions i was asked:

1. Why are you here?

2. What company do you work for?

3. What do you do for them?

4. Why are you applying for an L1B and not an L1A?

5. What makes you have specialized knowledge?


That was it. I answered short and honest. I waited about 10 mins and was called back up again. I went back up he asked me why i had been arrested and if i had a record, i said i was arrested for shoplifting 10 years ago and had a document proving the charge was withdrawn. He didnt say another word to me........he took my finger prints, took a picture of me said i owed $826 and was approved. Done.

I highly suggest hiring a lawyer to help with application to make things smooth. You cannot put a price on the peace of mind of doing everything right and correct. I can now move forward with my life and am very happy with the experience i had even though i was extremely nervous to begin with.
