LAFHA Explanation?

Post Mon Feb 04, 2008 6:02 pm

Can anyone explain what this is exactly, and how it works? How do you know if you are eligible for it?

I am getting different explanations from different sources.

Thanks alot all!

I don't know much about it so I'll be brief.

It's called "Living away from home allowance" (LAFHA). Generally you're eligible if you're on a temporary visa, like the 457. You would have to claim it through your employer and the employer may or may do it. You may also be eligable if you're on a permanent visa but the company requires you to live far away for short periods of time from your residence for work reasons.

I don't really know that much so I'll give you a couple of links.

*you may have to cut and past that one to get it to work, not sure why it won't include the whole line in the link.
