laptop questions

Post Wed Mar 15, 2006 6:09 am

Stupid question, I know: I'm about to buy a laptop here in Canada to take with me to the UK. Any problems with using a Canadian-bought laptop over there? I assume I'll need a converter thingy for the power difference? Anything else?

Am I better off waiting to buy a laptop in the UK, and just put my stuff on discs for the trip?

Anything else I should know about this, tips, advice?

Like I said, stupid questions. Please be gentle. Hehe.

All you need is a plug adaptor so you can plug in your battery back into a UK jack. You can buy those travel kits anywhere, probably at the store you're getting your laptop from.

I work from mine all over the place, no problem!

My computer works fine with only an adapter - don't use a converter unless you know you need one. My computer automatically adjusts the voltage. I have been told that if you use a converter when one is not needed then it might blow your unit.

Adapters work fine.

The only real thing to consider if the cost. Likely cheaper to buy it in Canada, so might as well do that.

Thanks, all. I did buy the laptop here in Canada, after discovering that the same machine there would cost in pounds what I paid in dollars. Whew.
