Laundry detergents

Post Wed Aug 26, 2009 4:35 am

It is just me, or do the washing machines/laundry detergent seem to eat your clothes faster over here, resulting in them looking older and fading faster? It seems that my dark clothes tend to end up with laundry powder residue when I do the wash (even though I'm using a liquid!). I don't know if it's the washing machines over here, or the laundry detergent available, but it frustrates me to no end. Has anyone also experienced this and found a brand that works well? I live in an apartment building, so buying a newer washing machine is not an option. It also seems the some detergents as not colour-fast as you might hope. I never had this problem with products such as Tide in Canada. I've used Cold Power Advanced (which was awful for leaving residue) and am currently using Purity Sensitive liquid but am still finding residue from time to time, forcing me to rewash things by hand, and that's when I'm noticing the colour bleeding!

We use Omo, powder. It has left residue a few times but I've found that has happened more when I've overfilled the washing machine. Other than that it's been great, no colour fading. And it's not even a colour fast one. I definitely haven't found any difference here than in Canada though. I used Tide at home and found it caused my clothes to fade.

Try filling your loads not as full. That should help with the residue.

We use Omo too, only I've always used about half the amount that's recommended. Never had a problem getting anything clean.

The only time I've had issues with clothes fading is when I hang them out on the line. Being new to the whole hanging clothes out to dry thing I didn't realize that you should turn them inside out so they don't fade. Mostly I just use the dryer though as it's what I'm used to, I'm a bit lazy and hate laundry and it won't fade the clothes.

Hi

I haven't had this issue either. I live in a unit but with my own washer and dryer. We use Cold Power Advanced but I use way less detergent then recommended. I try to hang my stuff on the line to dry but as mentioned earlier, found that you need to turn them inside out. Sometimes I use the dryer to heat the unit in winter. I do miss dryer sheets though!

Sorry I can't be more help.

I use 'Hurricane' by Colgate. It reminds me of Sunlight. The rule of thumb is to use about 1/2 of what is recommended in liquid form. I also use the regular/heavy wash cycle with an extra rinse and my clothes clean nicely.
