Hi,
I'm a Canadian resident, currently living in the province of Quebec. I graduated from law school in Montreal(civil law, LL.B.), successfully completed bar school and bar exams in the Province of Quebec. I am currently back to school to complete a one year intensive program in Common Law. I will be done in May 2008.
I plan to move to Florida to work next summer and i'm wondering if it's possible considering the fact that i cannot be admitted to the Florida Bar exams until I cumulate 10 years of work experience in my country. The other option according to the Florida Bar is to redo my studies in an ABA accredited school (and that's not an option i'm considering). In one word, i can't be licensed according to the Florida Bar.
My question is: since my occupation (lawyer) is listed in NAFTA, am I restricted to practising law as a lawyer or i can be employed as a legal consultant, case handler, paralegal, etc? I know the responsabilities must be accurately described, and I feel kind of lost right now. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Isabelle
