Leave of absence on a TN visa

I'm having a hard time finding information about taking a personal leave of absence while on a TN visa. I'm on an extended leave of absence (8 months) from my company and will be outside of the US for the majority of the time. Basically, I flew to Canada the day after I finished up at work, but I still have my I-94 (valid for another 6 months) in hand.

A couple of questions related to my situation:

1. Are you allowed to stay in the US under TN status while on a leave of absence?

2. I'm planning on going back for 1-2 week visits every couple of months. Should I re-enter as a visitor or will that trigger questions? Am I better off going back in on my TN status even though I won't be working? Should I surrender my I-94?

Any help on these issues would be much appreciated.

I'm in the same situation, i have not been able to find information about taking personal leave of absence while on TN visa. I will require 6 months and I will remain in U.S

My questions are:
1. Will Canadian TN Visa holders be allowed to stay in U.S under TN status while on leave of absence?
2. For how long? Maximum time?
3. Which are the requirements? Do I or my employer have to fill out some forms? Which ones?

I really be grateful with any help on these topics!
