Leaving Canada without the dad

Post Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:11 am

Hello!
We are Canadians living in Toronto area.
My husband is going on a business trip in Detroit and he is going to stay one week.I was thinking of going there for the weekend with the kids.
My question is :Can I leave Canada without kids dad to spend the weekend together.| have never travel without my husband so I dont really know.

Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you
:)

Both CBP (US border) and CSBA (Cdb border) officers require a notarized letter from the other parent allowing a parent to cross the border with a child.

I would recommend having the notarized letter with you, even though nobody may ask for it. It's just best to have it in case they do. My daughter recently travelled from Asia to Canada with her baby to visit family in Toronto and was surprised that she wasn't asked for a letter in either direction.

It'll be peace of mind for you to have it in any case. You don't want to be denied travel because you don't have the document.
