Length of Partner Visa Appliction Process?

Post Sun Jun 19, 2011 2:59 pm

According to the Canadian Australian Embassy the Partner Visa Application process will take between 6 and 9 months. Does anyone know (or has recently completed the process)if this is a worst case scenario? Since my wife is returning to Australia in October, and 6 months will have passed since they started processing my app, I would like to think it will take less time, and I will be able to travel there with her.
Thanks

My partner visa (de jure spouse) was granted in 08 and the average time then was 2-3 months; mine took 2 months and was processed in Ottawa.

I suppose it depends on how complicated (or not) your application is. If you submit all documentation that is required and there are no red flags, then you will be on the lower end of the timeline. If they state 6-9 months then I presume it will around the 6 month mark. Unfortunately, applications are now taking longer to process and cross your fingers that there won't be any delays due to additional information that might be asked ie further medicals, proof of relationship etc.

Good luck!

Apply while visiting Australia and you may be able to stay while it is being processed.... and work during that time.

Nope.

According to the poster he HAS already applied offshore. In fact, even though he can visit Australia on a tourist visa (and must inform his case officer of any visit), he will have to be outside of OZ to be granted the visa and will have to re-enter the country to validate it.

He will not be able to work until the partner visa (309) is granted and if he does find work, he could be deported and barred from entry for 3 years. IF he is under 31 he could apply for a 12 month working holiday visa but that would nullify the current visa he is on the cusp of receiving.

Unfortunately I'm over 31 and have already applied in Canada. But this information is extremely helpful.

Have you been asked to do your medical yet?

Hello, I'm a Canadian in the process of gathering all of the info I'll need to apply for a de facto visa. In the Partner Migration Handbook it is not clear as to whether a medical exam definitely needs to be done or not. Does anybody know for sure? Or if anyone reading this has gone through the process already -- did they require you to have it done?

Thanks so much for your help!!

Hi there,

I too am in the process of applying, in fact i'm submitting tomorrow! I did go and do my medical exam here in Edmonton, just to get it done. I wasn't sure if it was going to be a long wait to get it done or not (I got in within a week). With that said, the doctor is/has sent all of the documents to the consulate, he submits on mybehalf. I was a little surprised by that but i suppose that's the way it works!

Good luck with your app,
Lisa

There are some wonderful forums on the topic. On the basis of what I've seen so far, applications submitted to ottawa by Canadian applicants appear to be taking between 4 and 5 months on average (as of October 2011). One month down so far.
