living in Berlin

Post Wed Sep 15, 2010 8:50 am

I am considering moving to Berlin in a year as I love Germany and Berlin I am currently living in Guelph, Ontario.
I do have a few questions-
how much German do I need do know? Can I get a job on an intermediate grasp of German?
Do I need a visa-I am a British citizen
What are rents like?
Thanks
Ben

Hi Ben,

This may be too late, however; may benefit others. I am currently living in Berlin so can give you a grasp on living here. Being a British citizen you do not require a visa to work here. If you have an intermediate grasp of German you may be able to find employment here. With little or no German however, it is a difficult market. The unemployment rate is higher in Berlin compared to other parts of Germany. However, Berlin is more affordable than other European cities with lower rental prices and it is a great place to live. Getting a job before moving would be very beneficial if you could manage that.

Best of luck to you.
