Living in Canada need to divorce husband in US

Post Sun Sep 21, 2008 8:36 pm

I am living in Nova Scotia. I was married in January 2007 in Arizona. I have been home for a year now and would like to divorce my husband. He is living in LA now and he is less than easy to track down. My question is.how do I go about getting a divorce from Canada when my marriage took place in Arizona? I am lost. These divorce kits don't seem to answer any of my questions. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be fabulous.

Thanks so much!

I'd speak with a divorce lawyer in Nova Scotia. Most will give you some of their time for a small fee, you don't necessarily need to hire them to do the entire divorce. However, it may serve you better to hire a lawyer for the process, considering the cross border issues.

Divorce laws are different everywhere, the only other thing I can suggest is to Google divorce laws. You can't probably file for divorce in Arizona if neither one of you are resident there anyhow. Doesn't matter where the ceremony took place as where you are currently living.
