I am a Canadian woman, married to an American woman. We are currently living in Canada. We want to move to the US. but, I need a job!

Can anyone give me some pointers as to what I need to do? Where should I look for work - considering I currently don't have a US VISA; how do I get one?

Help! Would like to move within the next couple years.

Thanks!
JAS

Unless you have a university degree, or equivalent number of years on the job experience (usually about 12 years job experience) and an employer in the US to sponsor you for a TN, there's not many options.

A US employer has to first look within the US for employees. If they can't find anyone at all qualified for the job they need to fill within the US, then they can start to look outside the US. And they have to prove to immigration that there is no one in the US qualifed for the job, and you have to prove that you are the most qualified for the job. And even a TN visa is a temporary visa, so you'd either have to return to Canada, or make sure you stay with that same company who sponsors you til you retire! Even then I don't think you can apply for a Green Card.

Unfortunately, the US does not recognize same sex marriage or even common-law or conjugal partners as Canada does.

What are your professions? If it is anything medical, it shouldn't be to difficult to get a visa. The TN visa is temporary, but it requires little effort to renew it.
