Living in Hawaii?

Post Wed Sep 23, 2009 6:54 pm

Hey guys, I was just thinking what I wanted to do next summer, and I stumbled upon the idea of Hawaii. I'm 19 years old, and I kinda wanna do this one by myself. In a perfect world, I just want to go there, not to some touristy part with resorts and tourists and that, but I wanna just go to like a small town, and just hang out, learn to surf, and be chill for a year or so? Is it at all do-able? I hear cost of living is pretty high, but I'm not too worried about that. Any help would be awesome.

Thanks,

Dash

I believe as a Canadian citizen we can only stay in the US for 6 months; otherwise you will have to apply for a visa. Unfortunately you can't just pack up and go.

and what sort of visa are you planning on getting? There isn't really one classified as "just chill and learn to surf".

Haha true, true. Well, can't I just get a working travelling visa? Let's you work for like, a year or something?

What sort of job are you qualified for? Do you have a university degree of any sort?

Dude, you (anyone, not just Cdns) can visit US for 6 months at a time, but all that time you need to (a) prove that you really live outside US, and (b) demonstrate that you chave the resouces IN HAND to support yourself without working illegally -- and any work you might think about would be illegal.

I think you are confusing Hawaii with Australia. Surfing is good there too.

Yeah, Australia is a better idea for this plan, WHM visa. You can't easily get permission to work in the US. USCIS guff for visitors.
Steve.
