Hi -I have recently moved to Malta with my husband and kids. Just wondering if there are any other Canadians residing here- I am kind of bored.

Welcome to Saint Paul's Island!
My uncle and aunt lived there for about 18 years (just moved back to Canada 2.5 years ago) and when I visited I fell in love with the little place. I don't know your persuasion of faith, but for a couple of Canadians, check out the protestant churches (yes, it seems like the whole island is covered in only Catholic churches, but there are a few protestant ones if you look.) I only know the name of one off the top of my head: Full Gospel Praise Center (in Mosta and Buggiba last time I checked, but that may have changed), but I am not sure there are any Canadians there now. I know there are at least a few Canadians living there.
Blessings on you as you settle into the culture there and get to know the people (those that I met were great!)

M,
how are you liking Malta so far?
We have been thinking of relocating somewhere warm, low taxes, good schools & medical. Malta is a prime candidate.

We just spent a couple weeks in Cyprus, didn't like it & felt that the Cypriots were quite unfriendly. Expensive too.

Next step is to try Malta for a couple weeks. It would be good to hear another Cdn opinion of the place.Too small?

My opinion of Malta FWIW is that it's too crowded and a bit boring. Quite expensive too. They're going to the Euro at the start of 2008 so it will be interesting to compare prices when that happens.

Hi Steven,

You found Malta boring? Interesting! Do you live there now or was it a visit. One thing is certain, there is little in the way of night life, so if that is your style, the wee island hasn't much to offer. I used to joke that they seem to roll up the sidewalks at 6:00pm (at least in the smaller towns). However, I love being at the seaside (anywhere) and I am something of a history buff, so I found Malta a perfect match. There is a distinct shortage of greenery however, it seemed like the only places with grass were the golf course and the boulevard at the Hilton Hotel (not that I stayed there, just went for coffee once!)
I found telephone, petrol, and water fairly expensive there. However, I spent less on food than I would have in the same time frame here in Winnipeg.
I also found it very easy to make good friends there. I felt that they were a warm and welcoming people and I would definitely love to return.
I guess it is different strokes for different folks.

Margaret, I hope your are getting along well there.

Blessings on you,
Lisa

Cypress was the de rigeur place to go on holiday for people from the UK for quite awhile (still is popular), in all the years I lived in the UK I don't think I ever heard anyone come back without a story about some anti-social Cypriots they met.
