Everybody is entitled to their opinion. To posters that have negative comments about living in Estado de
Mexico I can offer one advice, leave, leave as soon as possible or if you insist on staying here are a few options to cope with the self-induced stress:
- traffic – hire a driver (500 pesos/week),
- food – McDonalds is always an option or, genetically modified imported food (can be found at Walmart in the frozen food section),
- noise – move to a better neighbourhood (Santa Fe, Polanco, Naucalpan are some options),
- corruption – learn how to use “the system”, failure to do so may result in catastrophic results for you.
It seems that there is a general consensus on the fact that many complainers, did not did their research thoroughly about Mexico, prior to moving here and once here…well…”it’s not like in Canada”. Well Mexico is not Canada or USA it is a different country. It is critical that, this must be understood by someone that moves “out of the comfort zone”. Otherwise, we have posters that say "I dont like it here, I want Mexico City to be like Port Alberni BC ".
As an anecdotal evidence, my wife and I visited Dubai and we wanted to dine at a restaurant but we could not because women without proper head covering were not allowed in. We were not offended, we just went somewhere else. We also discovered that, in
Saudi Arabia women are treated like comodities, there is not much difference between a camel and a woman. Were, we surprised? Yes. Do we mention this to all of our friends that want to visit Saudi Arabia? Yes.
Are we upset about this? No, it's their country, their rules.
I have been living in Mexico (Estado de Mexico) for a while; I own and operate a business here. I find it easier to operate a business here than that in Canada for many reasons (the 30% maximum income tax rate is a great motivator to make more money).
Life, in many aspects, is much better here than that in the “frozen north”
