Living in the US and paying Canadian tax?

Post Fri Feb 18, 2011 8:44 am

Hello

I recently recieved my L1 visa and I'm planning on physically moving to the US. My location will be driving distance to Canada (2 hours). I plan to cut all my resident ties to Canada but may ask my organization to pay me out of our Canadian office. There's certain benefits I'd like to retain. How does this affect my residency under the tax treaty. Would I be taxed on my worlwide income in the US and Canada? There would be the normal Canadian witholding on my income in Canada - would I be able to claim back the tax since I would also be filing a return in the US?

follow this up with me at forums.serbinski.com

They should be paying you as a US state resident, not as Cdn, US withholding and FICA.
